This paper examines homosexuality in the animal kingdom. The seeming paradox of the existence of homosexuality is delineated. The observed reality of animal homosexuality is described through examples as well as evidence for its biological causes. Possible theories of how homosexuality could have evolved and how it might be adaptive are examined.

Lo recomendaban en la revista Quercus, en un artículo sobre el tema que apareció hace unos meses, y sobre el que hay un foro en su página web.

Ando mirando cosas sobre el tema, es curioso, a veces puede explicar la reduccón de la natalidad en especies (muchos cérvidos y reptiles .. de determinadas zonas, por diferentes circunstancias.) y puede llegar a ser un problema en zoos … además de sacar los colores a dueños tontos que pasean a sus perros por las calles (no sé bien por qué) es interesante.

Hace tiempo que ando buscando información sobre el tema, desde las noticias de los pinguinos machos enamorados, en distintos zoos … de hace unos años.

*Zoo Uses Aversion Therapy ‘To Cure’ Gay Penguinsby
A German zoo is trying “to cure” three gay penguin couples using a form of aversion therapy. The Bremerhaven Zoo is splitting up the couples, and has imported four female penguins from Sweden which it will use to try to “turn” the penguins “straight”.
The three gay couples are part of the zoo’s 10 penguin exhibit. The others are apparently straight and coupled. But, for more than a year zookeepers were mystified why the three couples didn’t have any offspring.
They did the usual courting dances, built nests together, appeared to have sex, and still no little penguins. Finally they did a DNA test to see if there was something genetically wrong. That is when they discovered the three couples were all male. (…)
